INTRODUCTION to VR PRODUCTION

Who is the program for? Am I eligible to apply?
This lab is aimed at writers, filmmakers and artists wanting to create work for virtual reality who do not yet have professionally produced works in this area. You need to be a Victorian resident for at least the last six months, be over the age of 18 and not be a full-time student.

What is the selection process?
Applications will go through a two-stage process. After initial assessment, a shortlist will be created. If you are shortlisted, you may be asked to provide some additional materials.

What are you looking for? How can I make my application competitive?
Basically, we're looking for talented writers, artists and filmmakers with strong ideas. We want people who are passionate about telling stories in virtual reality and who have bold, surprising ideas. Head over to our resources page for some tips on creating, planning and writing your concept.

Who will the assessors be?
In addition to the Plot Twist program staff, we will engage appropriate industry assessors as needed. Rest assured, everyone who looks at your work will be an experienced professional.

If my application is not successful, will I be able to get feedback?
Unfortunately due to the high volume of applications, we will not be able to provide feedback.

When will applications close?
The deadline for applications is Midnight, November 1, 2019.

Why is there an application fee?
The application fee goes to basic administrative costs for processing and assessing applications.

Why is there a participant fee?
In order to defray some basic costs of the program, such as venue hire, equipment hire, catering and instructor fees, we need to charge a modest tuition fee of $165 plus GST.

What happens if I can't afford the participant fee?

We have tried to keep the application and participant fees modest to ensure the program is open to everyone who might wish to apply. However, if you are experiencing financial hardship, we can work with you on a payment plan or other relief. Please contact us to discuss this further.

2019 Narrative GAMES WORKSHOP

Who is the program for? Am I eligible to apply?
This workshop is aimed at writers or games enthusiasts/developers wanting to create work for narrative games who do not yet have professionally produced writing credits in games. You can be a writer with professionally produced credits in other areas, such as film, TV and online. You can also be someone already working in the games industry who doesn't yet have experience in narrative development. You need to be a Victorian resident for at least the last six months, be over the age of 18 and not be a full-time student.

When will applications open?
Applications are open now and close midnight November 18, 2019.

What are the key dates?

  • Application deadline: Midnight, November 18, 2019

  • Participants notified by: November 23, November 2019

  • Two-day workshop: 7 - 8 December 2019

What if I don't play games?
Not a problem! That's what the lab is for; we will introduce writers from various backgrounds to the games writing world. All you need is a genuine interest in finding out more about interactive storytelling.

How is games writing different from other screenwriting?
In lots of ways! For instance, the player has agency - s/he can choose whether or not to do certain things and how these things are done. Learning how to tell stories that are both narratively satisfying and fun to play is a challenge. Come and find out more about it.

How many writers are chosen to participate in the Lab?
20-30 participants will be selected for the program.
